Data Center Campus
AirTrunk, the data center operator owned by Blackstone, has been identified as the prospective buyer for a significant data center campus planned for Western Sydney, Australia. The purchase is conditional upon the data center project receiving full planning permission. The developer for the site is property investor ISPT, and the total value of the planned development is estimated at AU$5 billion (US$3.3 billion).
The project describes a massive campus featuring six four-story data center buildings, collectively spanning 400,000 square meters (4.3 million sq ft) and containing 24 data halls. The technical specifications for the site are substantial, outlining plans for 936 cooling units and 852 diesel back-up generators. Furthermore, the documents indicate the integration of large-scale energy storage, including facilities for 7,488 cabinets of lithium-ion batteries, and planning for at least one on-site substation, with the potential for three more.
The 52-hectare land parcel is listed by Australian real estate firm ISPT under the name "Summit." ISPT, which acquired the site in July 2024 via its Core Fund, currently masterplans the area for 245,000 sqm (2.6 million sq ft) of industrial floor space, with construction projected to begin in early 2026. The reported sale to AirTrunk, pending development approval, suggests a pivot in the site's ultimate use from traditional industrial logistics to one of the region's largest data infrastructure hubs.
